- Built two loading docks for easy transfer of recyclables from the manufacturing floor to trailers
- Partnership with local firm to implement a new foam recycling program
- Reduced landfill waste tonnage by 67% since January 2010

Upholstery Plant

- Reduce kilowatts used in 2011 by 3.5% from 2010 through employee education on energy awareness. Also, office windows were replaced with new energy efficient windows.
- Revised our furniture pack for all furniture manufactured in Newton, NC. Packaging materials now can be recycled instead of sent to area landfills.
- All lighting in both plants and office will be replaced with energy efficient T8 bulbs within the first quarter of 2012. This will reduce kilowatts used and carbon dioxide emissions. This will increase the lighting which will improve quality and morale.
EFEC (Enhancing Furniture’s Environmental Culture) is a voluntary environmental management system (EMS) for furniture manufacturers. EFEC was created with the purpose of maintaining and furthering the industry’s strong environmental performance. EFEC is a set of management tools and principles to integrate environmental concerns into daily business practices. EFEC provides a systematic approach to review and improve operations for better environmental performance and improved profitability. Benefits are obtained by setting up procedures to get the work done and reviewing these procedures to ensure they are working properly.
