Need Some Inspiration for Designing Your Custom Sectional?
Many components go into a great sectional sofa. Before you start to build your own sectional, let's review some of the major steps in the process.
Choose Your Sectional Pieces
Choosing your pieces is an exciting part of the process, as it will have the most significant impact on how your new custom sectional looks. There are several standard pieces to consider:
Loveseat – a standard two-seat piece that includes an armrest on one end. You can also choose an armless loveseat.
Sofa (right- or left-facing sectional sofa) – a sectional sofa is most commonly found in a 3-by-3 arrangement (with three seating cushions matched to three back cushions). However, you can extend the length of your sectional and deliver even more seating capacity by adding additional chair seats to the sofa section.
Armless Chair – an individual seat used in building out the sofa element of a sectional
Recliner – a seat equipped with either a manual or mechanical reclining option that lifts the legs and allows users to stretch out in a more comfortable horizontal position. If you're definitely interested in this feature, be sure to read more about our custom motion furniture.
Corner Chair – this element connects the main sofa piece to another part of the sectional. The corner chair (or seating corner) usually functions at a 90-degree angle. However, if your sectional is going into a large space, you can increase the angle and create a wide footprint.
Sofa Bed (right or left-arm facing sleeper) – a fold-out bed that can be incorporated into the main sofa component or the loveseat.
Chaise Lounge – a great choice to bookend your custom sectional, this extra-long seat allows you to relax with your feet up.
Ottoman – a floating seat with no armrests that can serve as a makeshift chaise lounge or a place for a serving tray to hold your drinks and snacks.
Choose Your Upholstery Options
Once you have chosen the layout of your custom sectional, you can decide on the type of upholstery you'll want to add. Our upholstery workroom features hundreds of designer fabrics and dozens of leathers of various colors and textures. All of our custom upholstery pieces go through the same hand-made manufacturing process so you can be sure of the quality in every single stitch.

Custom Sectional Color Options
One of the best parts about building a custom sectional or custom living room furniture for your space is the ability to pick the exact color and material you want. Not only does the color affect how your room feels, but depending on the precise material, it can also change the feel of your piece.
Choose Your Arm, Cushion, and Base Styles
There are several arm styles to choose from, and these can have a determinative effect in defining the style of your custom sectional. Track arms, for example, are an excellent choice for contemporary tastes. In comparison, the rolled arm is a suitable selection for more traditional styles.
Cushion and base choices are a bit more straightforward. You will typically see back cushions in one of three options: loose back, semi-attached and tight back. The sectional sofa base comes either with legs or with a fabric skirt when you build a sectional.
Our Custom Sectional Collections
We carry a range of custom sectionals in collections that reflect the most popular styles and trims. The Bassett Modern Collection features clean lines, lux accents, and a relaxed/comfortable feel. To something more traditional and classic like the Alexander collection featuring a timeless design that can adapt to all phases of your life as you live it.
