"Don’t give too much thought to trends. Choose what you love and you’ll most likely always love it."
BenchMade Bed

After 10 years of marriage and focusing her passion on other parts of the home, Julia finally decided to re-do her bedroom with Bassett's USA artisan-crafted BenchMade Collection. "We love that it’s handcrafted in Virginia."

Julia in her living room with family

Julia layered fabrics and textures on everything in her bedroom. From the Performance Heathered fabric (1540-01) on the headboard to the Trajani hand-knotted rug. The Pippa ottomans, in a Fog Woven Stripe fabric (2474-19), add depth and charm while the Pippa chair in a Silver Woven Stripe fabric (2395-09) looks like a beautifully restored Jenny Lind classic. She cleverly combines new styles with cherished hand-me-downs. "I love using antique, sentimental pieces throughout our home that are handed down to us from our grandparents and parents.

Q&A

What is your decorating process?

I usually start with one piece I love (usually it’s fabric) and I go from there. In this case, it was the hand knotted Trajani neutral rug. That set the tone for the whole room and helped guide my wood finish choices and fabrics.

How do you like to shop for furniture?

I get most of my inspiration for pieces online but will usually try to check it out in person. I love to actually feel what I’m purchasing.

What is your go-to decorating advice?

When redoing a space, look for inspiration photos. Start collecting them without thinking too hard. Pick what you’re drawn to. Weeks later, look at the photos for patterns in what you saved.

Julia’s Guide to Atlanta

GOING OUTDOORS

We have a new city park, “Westside Park,'' that we’re really excited about. There’s 280 acres of space and It’s a great place to ride bikes and have a picnic.

SHOPPING WITH KIDS

Richard’s Variety Store in Buckhead is like a step back in time. They have every toy and game imaginable, a train the kids love to play with, puzzles, housewares, and a crazy good selection of cards. The perfect outing for a rainy day.

FAVORITE MARKET

I love going to Floral Park Market to grab fresh flowers and a prepared meal. Walking into the market feels special. They carry local items like honey, eggs, leather goods and plants.

DINING OUT

Star Provisions has an outstanding breakfast, lunch and one of my very favorite sandwiches in all of Atlanta is their Shrimp Po-Boy. In fact, my husband and I traveled to New Orleans and I had at least six po-boys and none of them compared.

"I loved the furniture choices at Bassett and enjoyed how I could customize each piece we ordered."
