Choose Your Perfect Mattress at Bassett Furniture

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to sleep. That includes the type of mattress that you find most enjoyable. Whatever your preferences are for the mattress that you sleep on, you'll be able to find a perfect match in our collection.

Find Your Comfort Level

Do you like to sink completely into your bed? Perhaps you prefer the opposite, a mattress that provides maximum support. At Bassett, you'll find plenty of choices at either extreme and lots of options in the middle.

How do you know if a mattress is right for you?

Soft mattresses have a plush feel and allow for more of your body to sink into the cushioning. This can help relieve pressure on your back and keep the spine in alignment. Softer mattresses are recommended for side sleepers, as the side position creates more pronounced pressure points.

Stomach and back sleepers may be better served by a mattress on the opposite side of the plushness scale. That's because a firmer mattress helps to prevent your midsection from sinking too much, leaving you in an uncomfortable "U" position when you sleep on your stomach. A firmer mattress is a good match for back sleepers, as it provides the necessary support your back needs when you're stretched out in a horizontal position.

If you don't have a favorite sleep position, or if you change positions throughout the night, consider a mattress that strikes a balance between plushness and firmness.

What type of mattresses comfort levels are there?

  • Firm - This level is for people who like a firm mattress but not "rock hard". People often say they feel like they are "on" firm beds rather than being "in" them.
  • Plush - A mattress in this category is softer than a firm, and has extra padding or "pillowtop".
  • Soft - A "Soft" style mattress is similar to a firm in the sense that it does not have excessive padding, but still provides a "sinkable" experience.
  • Ultra Plush - A mattress at this level is often described is "super soft" and "sinkable" meaning you'll settle into the upper layers of padding while you relax. If you like a mattress that hugs you, ultra-plush is for you.

Pick The Right Mattress Size

What are the common mattress and bed sizes?

  • Twin - Usually the smallest size you can find in stores, a twin is 38 inches by 75 inches
  • Twin XL - Slightly longer than a twin, XL's run 38 inches by 80 inches, a full 5 inches longer than a regular twin
  • Full - 54 inches by 75 inches
  • Queen - 60 inches by 80 inches
  • King - Sometimes known as the Eastern King measures 76 inches across and 80 inches long
  • California King - Narrower and longer than a King, the Cali King is 72 inches wide and 84 inches in length
