A Homefront of Hope: the Reveal of Bassett’s Military Makeover with Montel

“It’s a feeling of shock and surreal happiness.”

We’re not usually in the business of shock, but we have long made it our mission (123 years long and counting) to contribute to feelings of surreal happiness at home. And the delight in seeing that happiness achieved with the help of Bassett talent and expertise never gets old.

Our commitment to superior design and fine furnishings is at the core of who we are and what we do. So is our support for our community. Since the beginning, the Bassett family has demonstrated that help begins at home, and with one’s home.

Over the course of our history, those community endeavors have included:

  • helping build a young country by providing railroad ties for the expansion of America’s transportation system,
  • using our materials and know-how to manufacture cargo beds for the iconic WWII “Deuce and a Half” trucks,
  • engaging in a longstanding partnership with The Stephen Siller Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation to support American heroes.

So, when we were offered the opportunity to join ranks with Military Makeover with Montel to furnish the newly renovated home of veteran Sean Reeves and his family, we merged our passions with their mission-driven team to continue the outreach of support and hope.

In front of the camera and behind the scenes, Bassett employees worked to fulfill the vision of celebrity designer Jennifer Bertrand and our own Creative Director, Anne Spilman-Souter. As the designers listened to Sean and Cecilia Reeves talk about the need for a calming environment to ease Sean’s mind and reduce his PTSD, they also heard clear style preferences – modern yet rustic, sophisticated while homey.

Across the house – from the living and dining area to his-and-hers office spaces to the primary bedroom – Bassett furnishings nudged utilitarian square footage into its new role as a nurturing environment. There is as much healing science in design as there is emotion, and the Reeves’ reveal reactions are a viscerally honest response to the success of the overall design intention.

“The inside was breathtaking. It’s completely transformed.”

Our other community projects don’t often give us a chance to see that in-the-moment delight of discovery that the makeover revealed. So, the opportunity to see the undisguised joy with which Sean and Cecilia greeted the transformation behind each door was indeed that of dreams realized – theirs and ours.

Along with sharing in their surprise and happiness, we wanted to share with you the thoughtfully designed plan for furnishings that brought the Reeves home to such a haven of hope and comfort. You, too, can Shop the Makeover for those products that speak to your style aesthetic and personal vision for your warm, welcoming abode.
