Global Artisan Collections

Throughout the world, generations of skilled artisans continue to preserve time-honored techniques. From hand-painting and layering gesso to transforming natural rattan and fiber cording into intricately woven designs, Bassett has built relationships with some of the world’s most respected furniture makers to bring exceptional artistry and handcrafted furnishings into your home.
Woven & Rattan
Woven materials have long been celebrated for their warmth, texture and versatility. Bassett continues to expand the use of natural and synthetic fibers throughout our collections, pairing these handwoven details with silhouettes that feel equally at home in both traditional and modern-casual interiors.
First introduced as a signature accent in our Newbury Collection, woven materials now appear throughout our Montauk and Catalina Collections as well, where pencil pole rattan, woven rattan and rush detailing bring warmth, texture, and handcrafted appeal to dining, occasional, and storage furnishings.
Each piece in our Catalina Collection begins with sustainably harvested rattan poles that are carefully selected, hand-straightened over an open flame, and steam-softened to make the natural fibers pliable. Skilled craftsman then shape, weave and finish each component by hand, using techniques that have been refined over generations. The result is furniture with exceptional texture and remarkable durability.
Inspired by classic Scandinavian design, our Sandbridge Seating Collection features handwoven nylon cording that captures the look and feel of traditional Danish cord, while offering enhanced durability and stain resistance. The result is seating that’s as practical as it is beautiful, and a welcome addition to any kitchen island or dining table.
Hand-Painted and Gesso Finishes
Some furnishings do more than complete a room. They become the art. Bassett’s hand-painted and gesso-finished furniture brings time-honored techniques to life.
Each Cita, Caroline, and Emma chest is painted entirely freehand by skilled artisans, without stencils or printed patterns. Inspired by botanical motifs, chinoiserie, and European decorative arts, each piece features subtle variations that make it one-of-a-kind. Custom antique brass hardware provides the perfect finishing touch, lending each piece a treasured heirloom look that’s equally at home in bedrooms, entryways and living rooms.
Traditional gesso brings another layer of artistry to our collections. Featured on select pieces in our Newbury Collection, this centuries-old finishing technique involves building up multiple hand-applied layers of a mineral-and-chalk-based coating. Once cured, the surface can be sanded, carved, distressed, painted or glazed, creating remarkable depth, dimension and a beautifully rich finish.
Metalwork
Working metal by hand brings a distinctive quality to furniture, creating subtle variations in texture, dimension and form. Using methods such as hand-hammering, shaping, and various finishing techniques, skilled craftsman transform metal into surfaces that capture light and bring a rich, tactile element to each piece.
Behind the clean, refined lines of our Keswick Collection is a remarkably hands-on process. Metal is cut, heated, shaped and welded by artisans before each joint is carefully ground and smoothed, then finished to create the slender, sculptural base. The stone top is individually cut, shaped and polished before being paired with the frame, bringing natural beauty and subtle variation to each handmade table.
Our Vansant Cocktail Table showcases the beauty of textured metalwork. Hand-wrapped in a copper-zinc alloy cladding and finished in a warm brass powder coat, each table is individually hand-hammered, creating a beautifully textured surface with subtle variations. The asymmetrical legs and rough-hewn finish create a striking balance between modern design and handcrafted character that complements a wide range of interiors.
