Is it Modernist-inspired or retro classic? Or both?

Introducing Andora

Our Andora Collection

Terminology aside, if your design intention is one of clean lines, elegant proportions, and materials cleverly crafted from still-apparent origins, then you’ve found your comfort zone.

The same tension between modernity and tradition that was the hallmark of design in the early-to-mid twentieth century is still the place where so many of us find ourselves comfortably at home today. Using a perspective of refined clarity, we indulge our senses in rich materials presented with simple yet sophisticated innovation.

Less about minimalism than it is about restraint, Modernist-inspired interior fashions are stripped down to an essential appreciation of materials and form. Today, we view that from a bit of a neo-rustic lens, where raw and weathered materials are embraced for their stories and their character.

But there’s still a reverence for honest shape. And those elemental shapes create the foundation for rooms that explode with personality while remaining free from visual noise. Familiar shapes like the Parsons table embody that comfort-furnishings dichotomy. With lines so straight and pure its nickname is the “T-square table,” the original Jean-Michel Frank model was designed to be garbed in any material and possess the ability to easily fraternize with furniture from any period.

Its current cladding of American Oak for our Andora collection spotlights the organically elegant luxury of the wood while using a cleverly mitered veneer application to play up its classically modern geometry.

"Our design approach began with a deep dive into intriguing silhouettes, discovered in sources ranging from magazine tears to designs at antique shops and flea markets. The Andora collection draws inspiration from a 1970s credenza by Frans Defour, featuring textured drawer fronts, that we found at a flea market. We were particularly drawn to its asymmetry and the interplay of varying slat dimensions. Given Frans Defour’s reputation for geometric furniture design, this piece felt like a natural evolution and a fresh addition to our current assortment."

Throughout our Andora Collection, there’s more of the Modernist-inspired yin and yang of rich materials simply framed. Pieces wrapped in irregularly reeded oak are contained by the clean composure of their geometry. Like most retro-classic pieces, these can just as easily slide into an eclectic, transitional, or even traditional design plan as they can set a modern tone in a more contemporary environment.

Let your home become an embrace of the materials of your many adventures and journeys. Choose them to help you tell the individual and unique story of you, in a way that has you reliving your memories while you’re busy creating more.
